Technical Studies for Public and Intermodal Transportation


Purpose of the Program

This program provides funding to conduct planning and pre-engineering studies that advance public and intermodal transportation in Illinois.

Who is Eligible

Public agencies authorized to promote public transportation within the state can qualify for this assistance, such as qualified municipalities, counties, and mass transit districts.

Application Process

Applications are taken throughout the year as long as funding is available.

Availability of Funds

The Division of Public Transportation’s Manager of Program Support will work with potential grantees to determine how much funding is appropriate.

How Funds are to be used

Funds can be used for a variety of technical study requests. Some examples of projects previously funded include:  rail feasibility studies, bus route evaluations, transit system expansion studies, operating analysis, market development studies, and traffic signal pre-emption studies.
