Purpose of the Program

Provide technical assistance, phone support and counseling in order to help Medicare beneficiaries eligible for the Medicare Part D benefit select and enroll in Part D plans and eligible persons (including those under the age of 60) to apply for Medicare Savings Programs (MSP), Social Security Administration’s (SSA) Low-Income Subsidy (LIS) Program, Medicare Part B Prevention and Wellness benefit and other prescription drug assistance program options.

Who is Eligible

Assistance is provided to qualified seniors and persons with disabilities to apply for a number of pharmaceutical assistance programs. Eligibility requirements are dependent on the particular pharmaceutical assistance program that is being applied for.

Application Process

To be determined eligible for any of these benefits, you must submit an application. Information and assistance with the various pharmaceutical assistance programs can be obtained or an application may be filed on the internet Monday-Friday, 8:30a.m.-5:00 p.m. CST through the Illinois Department on Aging’s Senior HelpLine at 1-800-252-8966 or 1-888-206-1327(TTY) For the location nearest you, you may contact the individual “Illinois Area Agencies on Aging” that can be found in the Illinois Department on Aging’s website at www.state.il.us/aging/2aaa/aaa-main.htm or you may contact a Senior Health Assistance Program (SHAP) counselor listed at  https://www2.illinois.gov/aging/resources/documents/shap_list.pdf

Types of Assistance

Technical Assistance, An eligible participant will receive guidance, technical assistance and counseling to make application for a variety of pharmaceutical assistance programs.
