Purpose of the Program

The Illinois MBRGP is designed to assist municipalities in assessing abandoned or underused industrial and commercial properties for the purposes of cleanup and redevelopment.

Who is Eligible

Only incorporated municipalities are eligible to receive Brownfield grant funds.

Application Process

Availability of Funds

$120,000 per application and $240,000 per municipality.

How Funds are to be used

Grants are issued to municipalities for extensive site assessments, preparation of clean up plans, and development of clean up objectives. Funds may be used at sites contaminated by petroleum, hazardous waste, or both. Funds may be used at multiple sites within a grant community.
