Ruth Thompson is a housing outreach specialist with the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs, Western Illinois University. She received her M.A. in Sociology from Marshall University in Huntington West Virginia. Her thesis centered on Medicaid funded home and community based services in West Virginia. She was a senior services specialist with the State of West Virginia, Bureau of Senior Services and later provided technical assistance to the state on Medicaid policy and research issues.

Ruth is currently working with a USDA-funded project to assist 14 rural communities in building their capacity to assess and address housing needs.
