Keith Boeckelman is an associate professor of political science and a research fellow at the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs, Western Illinois University. He received his PhD in political science from the University of Illinois in 1990, specializing in public policy and administration. Before coming to Western he taught at Texas A&M, Louisiana State, and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. He also worked as a staffer in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1983-1985.

His research interests focus on state and local government policy issues, especially in the areas of economic development and environmental policies. His articles have appeared in a number of journals, including "Policy Studies Journal," "State and Local Government Review," "Journal of Black Studies," "Economic Development Quarterly," "Publius:The Journal of Federalism," "Polity," and "Southeastern Political Review." At Western he teaches course in public policy, public administration, state and local government, and American politics.
