Gisele Hamm is Manager of the MAPPING the Future of Your Community Program, a unit of the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs at Western Illinois University. The MAPPING program is a strategic visioning and planning program in which local residents of rural communities create a long-range vision for their community and a plan of action for achieving it. In addition to managing the MAPPING program, Hamm currently manages the Ameri*Corps Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) program at IIRA as well as other community technical assistance grant-funded projects.
Hamm has published several articles in national and state outlets on brownfields and other development issues and has made numerous presentations to state and national conventions. She is currently engaged in research on rural entrepreneurship, infrastructure, brownfields, and other local government issues, and serves as vice president of the Mid-Continent Regional Science Association (MCRSA).
Hamm earned a B.S. in agricultural business and a M.A. in economics from Western Illinois University. Hamm joined the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs in 2003 to manage a study of brownfields in Illinois municipalities, and subsequently worked as a rural technology specialist in the Rural Information Planning Project (RITPP), managed the Rural Community Development Initiative (RCDI), and the Ameri*Corps VISTA program.
