Burton Witthuhn earned a Ph.D. in Geography from The Pennsylvania State University. He has worked in higher education, teaching and in administrative positions for more than two decades. He has coauthored two books and many articles and monographs on institutional self-study and advancement. He served Western Illinois University as Provost and Academic Vice President and Professor, Department of Geography until his retirement in 2001. He works part-time with IIRA on a variety of administrative issues and capacity-building efforts.
